Query: Top action on climate change?

What’s the top single action that we can take as individuals to mitigate climate change?

One reason for asking is to get an idea of whether I’ve discussed this action too much or maybe not quite enough.

Also, with many of us experiencing heatwaves all over the world, I feel that this is a good time to ask this question.

A table shows the warmest and coldest years in Central Park, New York, between the years 1869 and 2025. The National Weather Service logo is shown above the table. Many recent years rank among the hottest, while most of the coldest years are from more than 100 years ago.
The hottest and coldest years in New York (Central Park) since 1869 – take note of how many of the hottest years are very recent. Also note that all of the coldest years occurred over 100 years ago. Fox Weather has been making a big deal out of the fact that a record high was set all the way back in 1936, attempting to deny climate change. In reality, there has been a very real trend of increasingly hotter years in NYC. Data is from the US National Weather Service. See more on this topic here: NYC temperature records.

I’ll give you some hints:

  • It’s not about voting, but that is obviously critical too.*
  • It’s a very specific action.
  • All of us are capable of doing it.
  • It’ll reduce greenhouse gas emissions substantially.

*Especially this year in the US. Vote for candidates who acknowledge that climate change is real and have a tangible plan to deal with it. They are highly unlikely to be Republicans.
