The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) working group 2 (wg2) released its sixth assessment report (AR6) at the end of February. Here are some key points from the Summary for Policymakers and the Technical Summary.

IPCC 2021 AR6 Report summary. The graphic shows how the frequency of a rare event changes in future climate scenarios. A temperature extreme that occurred about once every 50 years is now occurring 4.8 times per 50 years. If the global temperature rise reaches 1.5, 2.0 or 4.0 degrees Celcius, then the event would happen 8.6, 13.9, or 39.2 times per 50 years, respectively.
